Brown BELL
During summer school, I participated in a three-day camping experience at Round the Bend Farm. Guided by the farm owner, we toured the farm's chicken and hog pens while learning about the uses of various plants, such as mugwort. We also learned about agroforestry from a researcher and visited the farm’s coastal agroforestry project, helping to protect saplings by transporting wood chips and cardboard.
Throughout the camp, we explored the local ecosystem, observing and researching native plants and insects. Later, we took a boat trip to Block Island, where we learned about the area’s history and the use of wind power. As part of a group activity, we took on different roles—including residents, government officials, and scientists—and developed proposals for the sustainable development of Block Island. I also presented an individual action plan advocating for campus vermicomposting.
